Leading British Columbia Alcohol, Drug, PTSD & Trauma Treatment Center, Sunshine Coast Announces Support for MAPS Research

Sunshine Coast Health Centre - Leading Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment

Sunshine Coast Health Centre is a leading treatment program focusing on alcohol, drugs, PTSD, and trauma. The Centre is announcing support for a MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies Canada) research program.

Sunshine Coast Health Centre, one of the top centres in British Columbia for drug, alcohol, trauma, and PTSD treatment at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca, is proud to announce support for innovative research being conducted by MAPS Canada. MAPS stands for Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies and MAPS Canada is an organization conducting research into potential uses of psychedelics for treatment of addiction, trauma, and PTSD. Of particular interest is research into PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and how psychedelics may be able to assist in PTSD treatment here in Canada.

"Our philosophy of drug, alcohol, trauma, and PTSD treatment is strongly evidence-based," explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. "Research is necessary into psychedelics as they show some promise. For this reason, we are excited to support MAPS Canada as it conducts its research."

EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT AND RESEARCH

Sunshine Coast is a leader in evidence-based treatment of addiction and trauma. Many Canadians who know just a little about recovery from drugs and/or alcohol may know the "Twelve Step" made popular by Alcoholics Anonymous. What they may not know is that this methodology isn't for everyone and that other treatment philosophies co-exist in Canada. Sunshine Coast Health Centre, for example, is known as one of the leading practitioners of "meaning therapy," based on the work of Viktor Frankl. Frankl was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist as well as a Holocaust survivor. He was the founder of logotherapy, which is a form of existential analysis, and he wrote the best-selling book "Man's Search for Meaning" to chronicle his experiences as a concentration camp inmate. Secondarily, research into new potential medications such as psychedelics may assist people who are following evidence-based, non-12-step methodologies. MAPS Canada is at the forefront of some types of this research. For example, MAPS has a treatment study underway utilizing MDMA (See: https://www.mapscanada.org/research/mdma-for-ptsd-phase-2). MAPS Executive Director is Mark Haden, an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Population and Public Health. He has been published on the issue of drug policy in the Canadian Journal of Public Health, and the International Journal of Drug Policy. Haden was involved in producing the Health Officers Council paper on the regulation of illegal drugs in 2005. He currently provides public education on drugs and drug policy.
