Sunshine Coast Announces Two New Posts on PTSD Treatment Program Options for Vancouver and All of British Columbia

Sunshine Coast Announces Two New Posts on PTSD Treatment Program

Sunshine Coast Health Centre (SCHC) is a leading treatment center located in Powell River, B.C., for PTSD. As many first responders suffer from PTSD due to the stress of their employment, the two new posts discuss some key news.

Sunshine Coast Health Centre (SCHC), considered one of the best private PTSD and trauma treatment programs in British Columbia, Canada, is pleased to announce two new posts on PTSD treatment trends. PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a condition that disproportionately impacts first responders such as firefighters and police officers. Sunshine Coast offers a unique treatment methodology for PTSD and trauma issues.

"We owe a debt of gratitude to our first responders and should acknowledge their struggles with respect to trauma and PTSD," explained Casey Jordan, chief marketing officer. "Accordingly, our two new blog posts provide some food for thought for the general Canadian audience about trends and issues with respect to PTSD, trauma and first responders."

The first post, entitled "Thoughts on PTSD, First Responders and Treatment," can be viewed at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/2018/12/first-responders-ptsd-treatment/. The second post, entitled "Doing the Right Thing for First Responders and PTSD Treatment in BC," can be viewed at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/2018/12/doing-the-right-thing-ptsd-bc-first-responders/. Detailed information on the Centre's PTSD treatment program can be viewed at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/ptsd-therapy-program/. Persons suffering from PTSD or their loved ones are encouraged to visit the website, click on the red "register now" button and request a confidential consultation. No two situations are alike and the best first step towards recovery is to explore treatment options in a confidential setting.

TRAUMA AND PTSD AMONG FIRST RESPONDERS

PTSD arises when the individual’s way of making sense of himself and the world is confronted with an experience that is incompatible with his world view. This incompatibility is so extreme that the individual cannot integrate the traumatic experience(s) into how he makes sense of himself and the world. Intrusive thoughts, avoidance and hypervigilance are the most common PTSD symptoms. SCHC emphasizes that trauma and PTSD cannot be reduced solely to neurobiology, maladaptive learned behavior or environmental conditioning. PTSD also affects fundamental motivations at the level of self-concept and identity, relationships, personal meaning and purpose. In other words, treatment that focuses on symptom reduction is less effective than treatment that combines symptom reduction with helping clients pursue personally meaningful lives. The two new posts take that framework as their background and then comment on trends and development in Canada that are influencing both the presence of PTSD or trauma and cultural awareness to treatment options. Unfortunately, many people who suffer from PTSD and/or trauma are not taking advantage of best-in-class treatment options due to social inertia and stigma.
