Sunshine Coast Health Centre, a Top-Rated Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center Serving Vancouver, Victoria and All of BC, Announces Post on Smartphone Policy

Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center Serving Vancouver, Victoria

Sunshine Coast Health Centre is a leading treatment program focusing on alcohol, drugs, PTSD and trauma. The Centre is announcing an online information page on its cell phone policy.

Sunshine Coast Health Centre, one of the top centres in British Columbia for drug, alcohol, trauma and PTSD treatment, https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/, is proud to announce a short and succinct new page on its smartphone policy. While the policy is not new, the new page allows clients and family to understand communication opportunities prior to enrollment as a client. Many clients, families and loved ones want to know that they can "stay in contact" while the client is in a residential treatment facility and working on recovery from a possible addiction to drugs or alcohol and/or PTSD or trauma issues.

“Canada is now a fully connected society when it comes to smartphones, tablets, computers and other Internet-enabled devices,” explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. “Our non-12-step treatment methodology is based on client empowerment; we treat clients as adults, not children, and our smartphone policy reflects this philosophy. It's a common question from clients, family, and friends, and so our new informational page helps position us as the leading non-12-step treatment program for drugs or alcohol, not just in Vancouver or Victoria but also in  British Columbia and in Canada as a whole.”

Persons who are interested in browsing the page can visit https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/cellphones-technology-policy/. The page explains that the Centre's "smartphone-friendly policy recognizes that individuals receiving drug and alcohol treatment need to stay connected to family, friends, and work. A basic principle of evidence-based treatment is that outcomes improve when one treats people with respect. Trusting people to use their smartphones appropriately reflects a respectful approach to treatment." In addition, the page has a further link to even more discussion at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/smartphones-electronic-devices/. That page explains how important an "evidence-based" methodology is to the Centre's treatment system and that the evidence supports a more nuanced policy towards electronic devices than an out-and-out ban.

EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT AND RESEARCH LEADS TO A NON 12 STEP METHODOLOGY

Sunshine Coast is a leader in evidence-based treatment of addiction and trauma. Many people in British Columbia, from Vancouver to Victoria, who know just a little about recovery from drugs and/or alcohol may be aware of the "Twelve Step Method" made popular by Alcoholics Anonymous. What they may not know is that this methodology isn't for everyone and that other treatment philosophies co-exist in Canada. Indeed, Sunshine Coast Health Centre, for instance, is known as a highly visible practitioner of "meaning therapy," based on the work of Viktor Frankl. Frankl was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, as well as a survivor of the Holocaust. Frankl was the founder of logotherapy, which is a form of existential analysis, and he wrote the best-selling book "Man's Search for Meaning" to chronicle his experiences as a concentration camp inmate. While smartphones were nothing more than science fiction when Frankl was alive, technology has evolved to the point today where nearly everyone has a smartphone. As is so often true, technology is a double-edged sword that can be used to help, or hinder, one's recovery from addiction. By clarifying their policy on smartphones, Sunshine Coast uses this as an example of Viktor Frankl's mental attitude in practice, in a small but significant way. By treating clients as adults and having a respectful and reasonable attitude towards electronics, Sunshine Coast allows clients to know from the littlest of interactions that they are respected and valued as co-equal partners in their recovery journey.
